ELECTROCHEMICAL CELL
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Please note that these Ventacon cells are EXTREMELY fragile.

Any standard electrode of your choice can be used in the standard cell pocket. The working electrode will slide into the glass cell body if the nut at the end is released. Tightening the nut expand the ‘O’ ring and seals the electrode to the glass cylinder. You can slide the working electrode back to a position close to the secondary electrode.

ASSEMBLING ELECTRODES
INTO THE GLASS SLEEVE

  1. Remove the cable assembly from the electrode end.
  2. Be careful not to lose the stainless steel washer.
  3. Leave the washer in place.
  4. Fit ‘handle’ very gently.
  5. Slide electrode into the sleeve, cable end outwards.
  6. Replace the ‘handle’ by the cable assembly.

The cable assembly need never be tightened hard onto the electrode.
Very gentle finger tightening will seal the electrode to the sleeve.

CLEANING THE CELL

To clean the glass body -

  1. Undo the two stainless steel screws in the plastic clamp.
  2. Carefully lift the body from its frame.
  3. Clean the cell.

After cleaning, remount the body. Do not overtighten the screws. You can slide the working electrode back to a position close to the secondary electrode.

DO NOT leave the working electrode in the glassware.

The working electrode front surface must be ground and polished using a polishing cloth and abrasive.
