Some samples are so sensitive to heating that sample rotation is not enough. The Model SRP-5 rotator provides vertical movement as well as rotation.
These rotators are designed to examine samples in shortened NMR tubes. The tubes are held from above and rotated by a motor gearbox system. The entire sample and motor are mounted on a stage which is translated vertically by a second motor gearbox and a lever system. The speed of rotation and the periodicity of the vertical movement are controlled electrically.
There has been some discussion in the literature about the desirability
or otherwise of rotating samples in F-T instruments. If rotated SLOWLY there is no
problem. The subject is covered in detail in A.De Paepe Internet J. Vib Spect.,[www.ijvs.com] 2,
